“Health Equity at Penn Medicine: Applying Cultural Humility” is documentary style e-learning module featuring Penn Medicine patients, staff, experts, and leaders. The module is designed for clinical and non-clinical personnel and introduces concepts integral to achieving health equity using local examples and provides evidence-based, up-to-date curricula on cultural humility and unconscious bias. The module highlights key concepts throughout using local case examples alongside national data and research. These examples allow our workforce to directly apply the concepts they learn in this module to their everyday interactions.

Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize how health care disparities (unequal treatment) differ from health disparities (unequal health outcomes) in the populations that we serve
  • Identify groups that may be impacted by disparities

  • Identify strategies to reduce implicit bias and apply cultural humility to improve our daily interactions with colleagues and the patients we serve
  • Define social determinants of health and how they relate to health disparities (unequal health outcomes) in the populations we serve
